I have been working with computers for many years and bring my knowledge of technology to my work as an artist. I use a variety of media, exploring drawing, painting, sculpture and photography while continually bringing images to the computer to modify, print and then combine again with other media. I have also experimented with video and installation, adding the dimensions of time and space to my work.

As I am exploring various media, I am looking for a means to best express personal emotions. In the past I investigated my reactions to aging and illness. Working with my own medical history, I created computer-based collages of my x-rays and medical records, juxtaposing the sterile words against the beauty of the x-ray.

I have also focused on nature, beginning with photos of dying flowers and, using the computer, turning them into something alive. These works combine the beauty of nature with the reality of decay. They speak of transformation and life, portraying humor and beauty while maintaining an edge that refers to my darker side.

Recently I have moved to woodcarving, responding to the imagery that I discover in found roots and stumps. The results are fantasy creatures, part human, part animal with allusions to dragons and gods. Again I am transforming nature, creating something alive from something dead.

In these sculptures as in most of my work, I use the computer as an artistic tool, testing modifications before I actually carve the wood. This merging of the analytical and artistic is another reflection of my life, where my long experience with technology is now blending with my need for artistic expression.
